31 January 2025
Combidrive Ltd included a Stieber one way clutch type GFR25F1-F2 in the transmission train of their road legal three wheeled ‘Mouse’ car. During a Shell Mileage Marathon a world record of 568mpg (201km/litre) was achieved. The GFR clutch series comprises a trapped roller design complete with supporting bearings and attachment plates maintaining a charge of hydraulic oil.The clutch automatically allowed positive drive and freewheeling as required, with minimal drag. The transmission from the diesel engine comprised a CVT belt drive connected to a simplex chain drive with the final chain wheel mounted on to body of the GFR25, which in turn drove the 25mm diameter rear axle.
Following the record result, the tv company Top Gear carried out their own road test.
